Transitions is a career developmental program designed to prepare the unemployed and underserved members of the community for entry or re-entry into the workforce by providing training and education opportunities that can translate into employment and economic success. We will achieve these goals by offering counseling in basic interviewing techniques, tips on dressing for success, application and resume preparation, and to otherwise serve as a resource/liaison for job training and employment placement. Undoubtedly, in today’s evolving economy, unemployment is a major concern within our communities. We believe Transitions’ workshops fill a vital need by offering a helping hand to those affected. Our sessions are free to the public and are provided in partnership with organizations and individuals committed to making a difference in our community.
To date, we have presented four workshops in service to county residents in Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges and Baltimore Counties held in collaboration with Howard County Community College’s Department of Continuing Education, Montgomery College/Takoma Park, The University of Maryland’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the Bloomsbury Community Center, respectively. Close to 200 Maryland residents have participated in the training that was facilitated by an aggregate of 50 diverse business leaders, entrepreneurs, college representatives, local government administrators and industry representatives.
