2008 Recipient of the Nicole Lynette Scott Lee Memorial Scholarship

BIOGRAPHY

LaCreanna Young, was born and raised in Rockford, IlI, where at a young age she developed a dedication to learning and achieving a high grade point average. During her teenaged years, she participated in various tutoring programs, maintained a part time job as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and helped take care of her younger siblings. LaCreanna’s hard work and perseverance led to her Magna Cum Laude graduation from Auburn High School.  Currently, Ms. Young is a junior in the John H. Johnson School of Communications at Howard University, where she is majoring in Television Production and pursing a minor in Business Administration.  She has remained on Howard’s Dean’s List for four consecutive semesters, and serves as an after school tutor with the Heads Up Corporation of Washington, D.C. Her honors include the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the National Dean’s List.  LaCreanna plans to use her education to impact the media by reducing its negative perceptions of African-Americans. She deems it very important to serve as a positive role model for both her peers and the younger generation.
