WHO WE ARE



The Scott Lee Foundation (SLF) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity established in 2007 as a memorial to the life, contributions, and goals of our beloved NICOLE LYNETTE SCOTT LEE. SLF focuses on the needs of youth, young adults and other members of the community who require assistance in the areas of college tuition, academic tutoring, social mentoring, employment preparation, and family counseling. The programs and services established under the umbrella of the Foundation are designed solely to make a difference in the lives of people in our community. SLF is dedicated to building better and stronger families, serving as role models for our youth, promoting education and career development for the unemployed and under-employed, and forming alliances with churches, sororities, fraternities and other organizations who share our goals. The heartbeat of SLF was motivated by a strong desire to establish a legacy for her children by preserving Nicole’s spirit, while demonstrating her commitment and compassion for life.

MISSION STATEMENT



The Scott Lee Foundation’s mission is to support, empower, and develop those within our sphere of influence who aspire to become self-sufficient, self-assured, and re-energized contributors to their families and the community at large. Generally, the mission of SLF is to help people improve their lives. We will focus on the needs of youth, young adults, women, the bereaved, and others who require tutoring in fundamental education, financial assistance with college tuition, employment preparation for entry or re-entry into the workforce, and/or specialized family counseling. Overall, we will disseminate hope and substance into the lives of today’s dreamers as they transform into tomorrow’s future leaders.

WHAT WE DO



Nicole Lynette Scott Lee Memorial Scholarship



This scholarship was created to honor and serve as a legacy to the memory of Nicole Lynette Scott Lee, who devoted nine years of service to a career as an account executive with Black Enterprise Magazine. Its primary purpose is to target persons of color seeking professional careers in sales, marketing, media relations, or advertising within print and electronic media. The goal is to bring more diversity into the communications industry in general and mainstream media in particular, so that our stories are told more effectively. We aspire to attract future industry professionals by supplying financial resources for Black American college students pursuing a degree in marketing, business administration, communications, and journalism.



Marsha Sumner Memorial Scholarship



Marsha Sumner earned an outstanding reputation within the Washington, D.C. broadcasting community, filling various roles in the industry. She was a graduate of the Columbia School of Broadcasting, which was the catalyst to her over 20 years as a Gospel radio music and talk show host in the DMV metropolitan area. Marsha excelled in multiple radio station formats while serving at WDCU FM 90.1, WWGB 1030AM, and HEAVEN 1580AM. The scholarship aspires to preserve her legacy by targeting and supporting high school and college students seeking similar careers in television, radio, or other forms of electronic media.



Milton Pericles Darden III Memorial Scholarship.



This Scholarship created to honor the memory of Milton Pericles Darden III, who died suddenly in April 2000, while enjoying a successful career as a top account executive in the Virginia Beach, VA offices of Konica Minolta Business Solutions USA, Inc. It aspires to provide financial assistance to persons of color in pursuit of a degree at a trade school, community college, or university, leading to a career in technical sales.



TRANSITIONS



​From our inception, we have been involved in workforce and employment skills development through our series of Transitions Workshops. Our efforts have been supported and hosted by several colleges in the metropolitan area, namely, Howard County Community College’s Continuing Education Department/Laurel Campus, Montgomery County College/Takoma Park, Tesst College of Technology, and the University of Maryland’s Office of Diversity & Inclusion/College Park, as well as Baltimore County’s Bloomsbury Community Center in Catonsville, MD, and Catholic Charities of Baltimore City, MD The purpose of this program is to expose youth to a diverse representation of job alternatives and to encourage their own research into job possibilities and career options. Among the myriads of potential outcomes, it will also provide hands-on instruction in resume preparation, interviewing techniques, leadership and team player skills, work ethics, financial management, and guidance in dressing for success.



TUTORING MENTORING TECHNOLOGY



TmT was created as an after school tutoring, mentoring, and technology program, designed to provide supplemental academic instruction to underachieving students. This program is intended to increase knowledge and abilities in reading, math, English, basic keyboarding, and computer application technology. Targets children aged 6-16.



NEW BEGINNINGS



A support group, created to counsel, motivate, and empower separated, divorced, or widowed women who are going through relationship crisis, suffering low self-esteem, and generally seeking renewed independence as a single person.



FAMILIES OF CHOSEN ANGELS



FOCA is a Christian grief counseling support group, created to provide comfort, assistance, and spiritual support, primarily to parents and siblings of deceased children.
